BASF Agricultural Solutions is responding to this shift with the North American launch of xarvio CONNECT 2.0, a portable digital farming device designed to make it easier for farmers to move information between field management software and farm equipment.
At its core, xarvio CONNECT 2.0 tackles a simple but important challenge: getting the right farm data to the right machine without adding complicated steps. The device works with xarvio FIELD MANAGER and compatible machinery terminals, allowing farmers to transfer application maps and collect information from field operations.
The device connects directly to a machinery terminal through a USB port. It includes an integrated SIM card and a secure mobile connection, allowing information to move between the farm management platform and equipment. Farmers do not need a smartphone or tablet to operate the system. It is also designed to continue working when network coverage is limited, with data transferred when connectivity becomes available.
This can be particularly useful during busy periods when farmers need to move quickly between different field activities. Application maps can be transferred to compatible machinery within minutes, helping reduce manual data handling and making it easier to put digital crop management plans into action.
xarvio CONNECT 2.0 supports widely used agricultural file formats, including ISOXML and Shapefile. It is designed to work with machinery capable of using flat rate and variable rate application maps for activities such as planting, crop protection and crop nutrition. The device is compatible with ISOBUS and CAN bus systems, allowing it to work across a broad selection of farm equipment.
The technology is not limited to sending information to machines. It can also capture data generated during field operations. This includes information such as harvest activity, moisture levels and application rates. Farmers can review the information through xarvio FIELD MANAGER and use it to better understand input costs, yields and revenue while improving operational planning.
Another feature is integrated GPS technology. By tracking machinery locations, the device can help farmers improve equipment logistics and understand how machines are moving across their operations. Better visibility can help reduce unnecessary movement, improve fuel efficiency, and support smoother fieldwork.
The launch also reflects the growing importance of precision agriculture. Instead of relying only on traditional farming methods, producers can use field-level information to make more informed decisions about where and how resources should be applied. BASF developed xarvio CONNECT 2.0 with input from farmers and built the new version on technology that has already been used in Europe. The device was tested in North America during the 2024 and 2025 growing seasons on different types of machinery, including planters, sprayers and fertilizer spreaders. Testing also included farm equipment that was more than a decade old, highlighting the company’s focus on connecting digital technology with existing machinery rather than requiring farmers to replace their equipment.
The launch comes as agricultural technology continues to move toward greater interoperability between machines, software and field data. For farmers, the value of such systems is increasingly tied not simply to collecting more information, but to making that information easier to use during actual farm operations.
